FAQs About Private Lessons
1. How long are lessons?
Private lessons are 30 minutes or 1 hour. You have a choice between recurring lessons or signing up for our class pass.
2. When do lessons take place?
Lessons are scheduled Monday-Sunday according to your and your teacher’s availability. Most lessons occur between 2-8pm on weekdays, 10am-4pm on weekends, but other arrangements are available at the discretion of the teacher.
3. When can we begin taking lessons?
Enrollment given on a rolling and first-come, first-served basis. You can register any time!
For the Class Pass, you can schedule your class pass lessons maximum 2 weeks in advance, minimum 3 days in advance.
4. What is the age requirement?
This depends on the teacher and the instrument! We have piano lessons for students as young as 3, and nearly all other instruments are available beginning at the age of 5. There is no upper age limit, many of our students are adult learners either returning to study or beginning for the first time!
5. Do we have to come in-person?
Not unless you want to! Our unique academy provides year-long lessons both in-person and online. You do not have to be local to Bel Air, MD in order to study here, and if you are local, you are not required to come in for lessons.
6. How do I pay?
Apprentice and Musician tiers are charged by a semester flat-rate broken up into monthly installments. Each month is the same price regardless of the number of lessons in a month as we are not charging per-lesson, but for lessons plus the additional benefits of each tier. Our payments are on an automated system, processing payments for the month 16 days prior to the 1st of the month (ex. for the month of September, you would be charged August 15th).
For Class Passes, you will pick what bundle you would like and pay then. There are no recurring charges for Class Passes.
Membership Pricing
7. How much do they cost?
That depends on which lesson tier option you choose!
-
The Class Passes are $40/lesson ($50/lesson with Ms. Jasmine). There are discounts when you buy class passes in a bundle! These can be used anytime throughout the semester, and any unused passes expire at the end of the semester.
The Apprentice and Musician tier's are paid monthly flat-rates for weekly lessons. There are committed and recreational payment plans for each of these tiers:
-
If you committ to lessons for the full semester (Fall- September-January 16th; Spring-January 20th-June 12th) there is a discount for lessons each month. By choosing this plan you are committed to the entire semester of lessons for the discounted rate.
Apprentice-$148/month (30-minutes); $200/month (hour)
Musician $160/month (30-minutes); $260/month (hour)
-
The recreational plan is weekly recurring lessons that offers the option of stopping lessons throughout the semester. You would let us know by the 14th of your last month that it will be your last month. Then, you will finish out your lessons and be taken off the schedule. This is not an option for the committed plan.
Apprentice-$160/month (30-minutes); $260/month (hour)
Musician $200/month (30-minutes); $320/month (hour)
For all lessons, there is an initial $25 registration fee to get you into the system on Opus and Practice Space. If you take a break from lessons, you will have to pay the registration fee upon your return.
Absences & Withdrawals
8. I need to take a break from lessons or stop lessons. What do I do?
Class pass - no need to withdraw! You purchase the number of lessons you'd like to attend, you attend your lessons, and that's it!
Recreational Plans - You would let us know by the 14th of your last month that it will be your last month via a withdrawal form. Then, you will finish out your lessons for that month and be taken off the schedule. There will be no refunds or credits for missed lessons if you choose not to attend your final month.
Committed Plans - By choosing the committed plan, you are committing to the full semester. You will be expected to pay and finish the semester. If you choose to break the committment of the semester, you will be charged the different between the recreational & committed plans for the months you've attended plus a $75 fee. To withdraw, you would follow the steps of the recreational plan, plus pay the fees outlined.
9. What if I need to miss a lesson?
No problem! You can self-cancel on the portal or call/email the front desk to let us know. Similar to if you miss a soccer game or dance practice, we do not offer reschedules, credits or refunds for missed lessons. While we don't reschdeule, refund or credit lessons, we do offer online resources and an online practice space. You can also message your teacher for a lesson/practice plan for the week you will be missing so you don't miss out on any practice time!
This helps us keep tuition costs fair and support the wellbeing of our teachers by keeping their schedule (and therefore pay) consistent week-to-week.
For the Apprentice and Musician tiers we also have included elective sessions into your membership. These are specific group classes you can enroll in to help enrich your lessons and further your knowledge/skill. These elective sessions can be added for Class Pass or Group Class memberships a la carte for $35/session.
For the Class Pass, we do have the option of rescheduing with a 48 hour notice as this option does not reserve the timeslot for weekly lessons. Anything less than 48 hours will not be rescheduled.
